Alexander Peterson, Cello

Alexander Peterson is a senior in high school at Kent Denver where he is an honors student and a member of the boys Varsity tennis team. Alexander first began his musical studies with violin lessons despite always wanting to play the cello. When he started “practicing” his cello on two Star Wars light sabers, he was finally allowed to make the switch to a real cello and began his lessons with Matt Switzer, cellist of the Colorado Symphony.  A member of the Denver Young Artists Orchestra String Ensemble for one year, he later joined the senior Denver Young Artists Orchestra in the fall of 2021, playing both in the section and as Principal Cellist.

He has performed as part of Young Musician Prelude concerts for Front Range Chamber Players in Denver, CO and Chintimini Chamber Music Festival in Corvallis, OR.  Alexander has participated in summer programs at Rocky Ridge Music Center in Estes Park  and in the summer of 2022 Alexander attended Interlochen Arts Academy and won a spot in the prestigious World Youth Symphony.

This past summer Alexander attended Lamont Summer Academy as Principal Cellist and studied cello with Barbara Thiem in Austria. He enjoys reading, skiing and tennis, and his private cello lessons with Matt Switzer.
