PictureMegan Karls, violin
Megan Karls

In her fourth season with the Cascade Quartet, Karls is Principal Second Violin of the Great Falls Symphony. She also enjoys performing across the state of Montana with the String Orchestra of the Rockies, Festival Amadeus, Yellowstone Chamber Players, Billings Symphony, and occasionally as concertmaster with the Bozeman Symphony and Intermountain Opera. Before moving to Montana, Karls held positions with Green Bay, Des Moines, National Music Festival, Bard Summer Festival, Fox Valley, and Waterloo-Cedar Falls symphony orchestras.

Karls is a founding member of the Enid Trio, a contemporary music ensemble. The Enids have commissioned over 25 new works for their unique instrumentation (violin, viola and bassoon) and have been guest artists and clinicians at Oberlin Conservatory, Lawrence University, Northern Illinois University, Wichita State University, Roundtop and various conferences across America.

A passionate educator, Karls spends her summers on the faculty at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, Superior String Alliance camp and Camp Festival Amadeus.

Karls holds Bachelor’s Degrees with honors in Political Science and Violin Performance from Lawrence University and a Masters Degree from the University of Iowa, where she was awarded a Graduate Fellowship and a Research Assistantship with the Iowa Center for Contemporary Music. During her time away from the violin, she can be found hiking, camping, or watching Green Bay Packer football.
