Matthew Means

Violinist Means continues to impress audiences across three continents with performances that span the entire range of solo, orchestral, and chamber venues. Currently Director of the Honors College and Associate Professor of Music at Fort Hays State University, he also served as Visiting Lecturer in Music at the University of Northern Colorado and as Interim Chairman of the Department of Music at FHSU. A recipient of the BM degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Northern Colorado, he received an MM degree and Professional Studies diploma from the Cleveland Institute of Music.

As an orchestral performer Means served in first-desk capacities across the U.S. and abroad under the batons of conductors such as David Zinman, Charles Dutoit, Marin Alsop, Carlos Kalmar, Jesus Lopez-Cobos, Andrew Litton, and Gerard Schwarz. He made his European solo recital debut in the spring of 2010, at the Paganini Conservatory in Genoa, Italy. In recent years, he has been seen in public performances of the concerti of Beethoven, Glazunov, Barber, Dvorak, Mendelssohn, and Vivaldi, and has performed chamber music with some of the great artists of our time, such as Sarah Chang, Angel Romero, and members of many of the USA's leading orchestras.

Summer festivals Means has attended, or been invited to attend, include the Pacific Music Festival (Japan), the Colorado Music Festival, Kent/Blossom Summer Music, the Encore School for Strings, the National Orchestral Institute, and the National Repertory Orchestra. Each summer he participates in the first violin section of the Cabrillo Contemporary Music Festival.
