Music through the ages for viola d’amore and piano
Matthew Dane, viola d'amore
David Korevaar, piano
An exotic instrument of mysterious origins, the viola d'amore first appeared in Europe during the Baroque era and captured the imagination of Bach, Telemann, and Vivaldi. Join Matthew Dane as he introduces and celebrates the viola d'amore through a program spanning centuries and continents: pieces by Vivaldi and Puccini, diverse new works by living composers written for Dane, including Reena Esmail's Nishani, and a premiere by Houston composer Marcus Maroney. Dane will be joined by pianist David Korevaar.
